If I had only one sermon . . .
At a recent quarterly gathering of leaders at Florida College, each of the men and women reflected on the one thing they would most want to tell our students. Their responses are listed below.
Seek wise counsel to overcome misleading emotions.
Life is hard but difficulties are blessings.
Submission is a blessing.
Doubts and questions arise in the life of every Christian.
Don’t accept secular culture unthinkingly.
The Word of God is our Father’s guidance, and we are children who should obey.
Anxiety is a most prevalent problem in your day.
The rate of suicide among youth is high and it is not the answer. Tomorrow can be a better day.
All older Christians also bear burdens. We all have struggles, and you should not be ashamed that you have personal struggles.
Keep God first in your life. He has everything you need.
We want to understand better what you need.
Recognize the value of daily chapel in college. You won’t always have it but it can create spiritual disciplines for a lifetime.
All Christians are a part of Christ’s body. All of you belong, and we should show kindness towards each other.
We want to emphasize more the struggles that we all have in our faith.
Life is filled with uncertainty, so prepare for the trial that is coming.
Don’t ignore the objections that come from within you. Faith doubts.
Don’t wait for an invitation to be spiritual leaders. Imagine what an incredible campus we could have if everyone embraced spiritual leadership as a personal challenge.
May the Lord enable us to speak these lessons to young Christians, praying for the will and way to live out this wisdom in all our lives.
